Christmas in July

If we know our demographic correctly, I think it’s safe to assume that the majority of readers of the Lauryn Rose blog are inhabitants of countries that celebrate their Christmas on the 25thof December, surrounded by, if not pure white snow, at lease sub-zero temperatures that match the Christmas cards and Christmas movies that make up the nature of the traditional holiday season. However, we know that because of geography and science, not everybody gets to celebrate the kind of white Christmases that Bing Crosby has been singing about for sixty plus years!

Christmas in July

Allow us to introduce you to Christmas in July, a phenomenon that arose in places like Australia who, on December 25th, are right in the middle of their sweltering summer season. Of course, the Aussies do celebrate Christmas on this day and do all of the family cooking and present exchanging that we are used to, but the there was always something that they felt they were missing out on cooking seafood on the beach rather than turkey in the oven. So, due to the country’s close ties to Great Britain, a new tradition arose, Christmas in July, a time when Australia experiences the most winter-like weather that it is has all year round, and a time where millions of people choose to have a secondary festive celebration that mimics more of the traditional elements of a white Christmas! The practice also spread to the USA where many states also do not experience the typical Christmas weather.

Sure, Christmas in July will never be able to replace real Christmas, but if you were ever looking for an excuse to do a little guilt-free internet shopping, then this is definitely it! Here at Lauryn Rose we embrace all cultures and traditions, and Christmas in July is certainly no exception!
